I'm all about accountability and bringing people to justice (and I still support the stimulus). What I don't understand is why we are spending hours and hours of news talking about this tiny tiny fraction of money being spent. If you just bought a $170,000 house do you really think you'd live in the $165 dog house?

My point is this: I'd much rather hear that Congress was focused on where the vast majority of this money was going instead of spending a whole week on such a small drop in the bucket.

I don't disagree about the numbers at all (in fact, it once again highlights how humans perceive numbers on a logarithmic scale, while thinking linearly) ... however, there is something symbolic about the way AIG is going about this that can be seen as an indicator of greater endemic corruption.

As a political tool, this particular case is one that is very easy to understand in cut and dry terms for the layperson. Trying to explain CDS traunches will cause other's eyes to glaze over, despite the fact that much worse abuse is happening there.
