The Donut

Some say donuts, they are a river
that drowns the tender tongue.

Some say donuts, they are a wonder
that fills your mouth with fun.

Some say donuts, they feed a hunger,
an endless aching need.

I say donuts, they're made with flour,
and you they are to feed.

It's the yeast afraid of rising
that never learns to bake.

It's the cream afraid of filling
that never takes the cake.

It's the dough we won't be bakin',
whom cannot form it's hole,
and the powder afraid of dusting
that never leaves the bowl.

When the morn' has been too lonely
and the road has been too long,
and you think donuts are only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the morning
deep within the cubicles
lies the box that with the donuts
in your mouth, becomes so good.

Two donuts appeared in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not eat both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked at one as far as I could
To where it laid in the sugar coat;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better filling,
Because it was doughy and wanted teeth;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
