Wii ConsoleI know it’s bad form to post three times in one day but I MUST celebrate what just happened…

I GOT A Wii!!

I am so unbelievably excited, it’s difficult to describe. I just can’t wait for it to arrive… should be here in a few days.

Circuit City still had a few left when I checked out (a co-worker was trying to get one too). Thanks to WiiTracker for the tipoff.

AcrobotsBeansI love the internet for many reasons. One reason is that I occasionally stumble upon little things that make me giggle, then smile, and then waste 10 minutes doing absolutely nothing. Today I have two such wonderfully quirky things to share with you:

The first is Acrobots, a hypnotic time drain. You control small three-armed “acrobots” as they gracefully try to keep each other aloft. There’s not much point to it - and yet I still found it quite enthralling.

The second one, Screamin’ Beans, makes me laugh hysterically… but I’m not sure why. You’ll want to mute your sound if there are other people around. Just keep clicking on things - you’ll see what happens! I love the super saiyan reference at the end too!

Jesus vs. Satan, fighting in the garden of edenWhat a day for Bible characters. First we have the announcement that Walmart will carry Bible Action Figures. Super sweet, but not quite as cool as the Buddy Christ.

Now we have Adult Swim’s Bible Fight, where you can play entertaining matching such as Jesus vs. Satan or Moses vs. Eve. Their “special moves” are quite good too - for example, Noah calls upon a herd of animals to trample you or can rain a torrent of water onto your head.

Wii fun with Mike & MikeMike and his lovely wife Kristen recently moved within walking distance of our house and it is a wonderful thing. And I’m not just saying that because he happens to also be babysitting a friend’s Wii for a couple weeks :)

After putting the kid to sleep I headed over to their house to play some Bowling, Baseball, Billiards, and other games that don’t start with the letter “B”. It was a lot of fun to just hang out and play video games - reminded me of our youth.

As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to buy the Wii for myself Libby, they just announced the release of a brand new fitness device called the Wii-Fit!

Must… resist… urge… to… buy…

Finetune Wii Music PlayerThe Finetune Wii player is the first in (hopefully) a long line of websites and internet services designed specifically to “play nice” with Nintendo’s Wii. Using the Wii’s built-in web browser you can navigate to this site and have the music play right over your television or stereo speakers. In fact their beautiful flash-based player will work through any web browser (like the one you’re using right now), but the interface just fits best with the wand interface of the Wii.

My brother was lucky enough to find a Wii to buy the day after Christmas, so as a result I was lucky enough to see and play with it in person. Of course, now that I have seen the Wii in all of it’s wonderful glory all I can think about is how much I want one for myself! But alas now is not the time for such toys - perhaps someday when the kids are old enough to join their dad in a fun game of Wii sports…

3-D Logic gameWhile taking a break from writing I came across an excellent 3-D puzzle game called ‘3-D Logic’. The object of the game is to color the grey squares on a cube so that each pair of colored bricks are connected (diagonals don’t count). It’s Rubik’s cube meets connect-the-dots: soothing yet addictive.

There are many Sudoku solvers out there. Most have one or more of the following weaknesses:

  • They require you to download and/or install an application
  • They require some plug-in (e.g. Java, Flash)
  • They require you to submit your puzzle to the server (hence the processing is not done in your client and you must be connected)
  • They use a simple brute-force algorithm to find a solution
  • They are not free

Ladies and gentlemen, I can proudly announce that my free Javascript Sudoku Solver (that’s for you google) is free of these burdens. It can also slice, dice, and julienne carrots in no time flat! Enjoy.

note: don’t worry - I am still busy working on things that need to be done. This was an old post that I had waiting in the wings for a while.

Simple and elegant javascript game. Click and move the teal box so that it does not touch the container sides or the moving red boxes. My personal best is around 24 seconds. The code for the game is originally from this site. I modified it to avoid the use of tables (yuck) and added a few graphical touches. [original link via Matt Hunt]

update: the game was a bit messed up in IE (who still uses that?), but I have found and fixed the problems.

Keep your mouse cursor safe from the little man. To start the game simply click on the first menu selection. The object is to stop the little man from grabbing your mouse pointer. I guarentee that the first time you try this game you will lose in the first 5 seconds, but the longer you can go the more entertaining his attempts to capture your pointer become.
