Life has been kinda busy these past few days, and I’ve still felt sick, so no posts for you (my apologies). Here are some posts that are in the works:

  • A new album from the concert weekend in Baltimore (look for it late tonight).
  • A new site I developed for a neighbor friend that launched a few weeks ago (look for it mid day tomorrow).
  • A site redesign for a good friend that is nearing launch (look for a post about it Friday).

Winter has begunI have updated the look of my blog (and baby, it’s cold in here).

This is probably very obvious to you if you’re reading from my actual blog. This notification is intended for individuals who read my posts from a feed (and thus do not see the actual site).

Enjoy :)
Mike

UPDATE: The site appears to be broken in IE. Until I fix it perhaps you should try using a real browser.

We’ve back from our trip out east and Shannon and I are trying to catch up on our postings. Our camera broke over vacation (again), so we only have pictures from the first half of the trip. Hopefully I can grab a few pics from other family members who had functioning cameras.

Expect a scattering of posts over the new few days as we re-adjust to “normal” life.

Green Hosting ServiceMy hosting service, DreamHost, just announced that they have gone green! They are now “carbon neutral,” which does not mean they have stopped producing carbon - it simply means that they “buy back” any carbon they do produce (i.e. while running this server) from other companies who are able to cut back their carbon production.

So the net effect, at least hypothetically, is zero carbon emissions. Anyone out there know if this is more than just a good PR stunt? Should I look into buying back carbon for our household, or is it a big scam?

Go, go gadget conservation!

Tanned turkey relaxing in the sunShannon and I will be spending a relaxed Thanksgiving with her parents out on the east coast. While we’re away we will probably not be able to post, so don’t expect much to change until next Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My 28th birthdayYesterday was my birthday - I am now just two years away from 30. I celebrated the day with Heather and Bob, who surprised me with a cake, ice cream, and beer (yum!). Thank you Bob and Heather!

To address questions that may arise from my lack of “birthday spirit”: I personally don’t like to celebrate my birthday. Nothing bad happened to me during childhood or anything (in fact, I have a lot of great birthday memories from my youth). But these days I find the most satisfying celebration to be laid back and relaxed. I’m sure I’ll have a big blowout party one of these years, but for now this was more than enough for me.

To address questions that may arise due to my scruffy looking face: No, I did not forget to wash my face. Yes, I am trying to grow a beard (it has only been a week). Yes, I realize it looks silly right now.

Google logoOne popular route to pages on this site is through the ubiquitous Google search engine. In general, everytime you click a link your browser not only tells the site what page you want but it also tells the site what page you are coming from. So when the link you click is on a search result page the recieving web page also gets a peek at what you were originally searching for.

I love looking over our log files for this site because it tells me interesting visitor information. Using these logs I can also check out what queries people are using to find this site, and today I present to you some of the weird, funny, or interesting queries I have seen over the past couple months (links go to a google search for the phrase):
